Northern India is affected by severe flooding, so poverty and Christian Christian Aid is responding to the emergency.

One of the most affected states is Uttar Pradesh. The Christian charity has sent £50,000 in charity funding to their partners CASA, Dynamic Action Group (DAG) and Poorvanchal Gramin Vikas Sansthan (PGVS) to respond to this devastating emergency.

This disaster has destroyed 1,500 villages, affecting more than 800,000 people's who have lost their houses and the cultivated produce of their ground and all their normal ways of survivng.

Government-run relief camps have been helping more then 30,000 people but another part of the population of those communities have been evacuated to local schools and community centres for safety. More than 150 villages are completely abandoned and they are blocked from all kinds of aid.

The flooding in those communities is a result of the heavy rainfall in Nepal which is causing the river Ghaghra to break its banks. Also, in Uttar Pradesh, the water level has rised extremely above the edge of the river and is affecting more than 10 million people.

Partners respond

DAG and PGVS are responding to this emergency. They are taking food and other types of aid to those communities most affected.

Urgent needs include:

  • Food, clean water and sanitation
  • Mosquito nets to prevent malaria
  • Cooking utensils
  • Bedding and clothing.

With your donations you can help poverty charity Christian Aid to respond this type of emergency.
