

In the east of Sri Lanka communities have been affected by severe floods. The districts of Batticaloa and Ampara in the east of Sri Lanka have been affected many times by floods in the past.
In the Ampara district the charity Practical Action are waiting for news about families who have been affected in this area.
The Batticaloa district is where this charity set up their base to work with people affected by these floods.
The charity has produced details of the amount of affected people in the three divisional secretariat divisions in the area.
There are 3 temporary camps where 96 family groups are living - this is confirmed by the last report from partner organisations in Kalmadu village.
905 family groups are using one temporary camp in a school in Ondachchimadam. 1017 affected families are staying in two temporary camps in the region of Manmunaipattu - these are villagers from the southern and northern villages of Kirankulam.
The people affected by the floods require immediate action to meet their basic living needs, for example:
- Food
- Water for drinking
- Mosquito nets, bed sheets, mats
- Medicines
- Oral and bodily hygiene items
