The biggest ten charities we can think of who help people in poverty are listed below
What's interesting here is, numbers-wise for beneficiaries and participants in charity programmes, some lesser-known charities can have a much larger global reach and impact but be very low on brand recognition in the world of the general public.
We had a 60 second brain storm and these were the poverty charities that sprung to our minds first when we tried to list a top 10.
- Oxfam
- Save the Children
- ActionAid
- CARE International
- Christian Aid
- The British Red Cross
- UNICEF
- Plan UK
- World Vision
- Concern Worldwide
Most of the charities above are based overseas, but some do help poverty in the UK. Barnardo's, is a well known organisation not listed above, that has been helping children since it was founded in 1866. Isn't it amazing to think it has been going for so long?
We've got some of these and other poverty charities listed on our site so please check them out if you would like to learn more about how you can support them.
We had another think about this in Janaury 2014 and thought it would be good to add a few more!
- Practical Action
- Merlin
- Doctors of the World
- WaterAid
- Tearfund
- Send a Cow
- War on Want
