Protecting fragile habitats
Antarctica is very important to all environmental charities that are trying to protect the planet.
That's because the Antarctic ice sheet is the largest single ice sheet in the world and plays a very important part in regulating our climate.
As this ice sheet melts it could have a catastrophic effect on global sea levels.
Charities like WWF and not for profit organisations like Greenpeace are trying to protect Antarctica in several ways.
For example, by stopping mining and drilling in the area, raising awareness about the impact of climate change on the Antarctic, and protecting the wildlife that depends on the ice.
For example, WWF are protecting Antarctic Adélie Penguins as part of their conservation work.
