For almost 900 years...
The oldest charities in Britain have been around for nearly nine hundred years.
The Hospital of St Cross in Winchester is one of the oldest.
The hospital was started in 1136 by Bishop Henry de Blois, William the Conqueror's grandson.
Still in existence the hospital still cares for old people and, steeped in tradition, offers bread and ale to passing travellers who request it.
