A view from the Lake District

We have only been to the Lake District once and it is something we will never forget.

Absolutely stunning, rugged beauty.

And one big thing we recall was water running down the sides of so many awesome hills and generally a feeling of water everywhere. Including the rain on a couple of occasions.

With all that rain, it is no wonder that the myriad footpaths that entwine the hills and dales need a lot of upkeep. With the many feet that tread them as well, you can imagine the poor footpaths really take a beating.

Christmas time is coming soon which always magnifies the awareness of just how well many of us have it compared to those who truly live under terrible conditions.

One famous charity we think about often is Barnardo's, and none more so as Christmas approaches, and we remember that while we will do all we can to make sure our children have a great time many children don't even have a place they can call home or a family to love them.

The well known charity Guide Dogs have recently spoken out about their concerns over the impact cuts councils have made will have a negative impact on visually-impaired people.

Studies reveal that 2 out of 3 people who are impaired visually have tripped or had difficulty walking on pavements and paths that are not in good repair.

Sixty five per cent of them have reported hurting themselves because of these negated walkways or things that get in the way that shouldn't be there on the streets.
