Phew! It's been so hot in the UK over the last week or so, it made us think this is what it would be like to live inside the Eden Project's tropical domes. In fact, it might be cooler inside them, so perhaps we should all head there to cool off!

Despite global attempts to ensure that every child in this Millennium would be receiving an education by 2015, to date we are still falling very short of this goal. The figures are staggeringly disappointing: Of the 57 million children who are still not receiving a primary school education, nearly half of them live in war-torn countries.

One of these countries is Pakistan, where a girl aged just 15 years was shot in the head and neck by the Taliban because, even at such a tender age, Malala Yousafzai, was passionate and vocal about the right of every child to go to school.

The National Trust have reported that the lengthy, cold start to 2013 has had a detrimental effect on winged insects and the birds and bats that feed off them. This, in turn, could affect pollination for the late flowering spring plants.

The weather in the first three months of the year was extremely severe and March was on record as the coldest for 50 years. Although April and May experienced some warmer spells, they too had their share of frost, burning off bracken fronds and young leaves on ash saplings.
