The animal welfare charity PetRetreat has announced record numbers of people volunteering to become temporary foster carers, thanks to a public outcry against animal abuse.

Following a multi-channel campaign on BBC breakfast television, regional radio and in print, the animal protection charity reported a steep hike in applications to become RSPCA PetRetreat fosterers.

An influx of 12000 new applications should boost the charity’s support network, which currently has just 80 fosterers that help save animals.
