Latest news today from the World Wildlife Fund is that the UK government has confirmed that there is funding available for the next stage of the country's CCS (carbon capture and storage) competition where companies must demonstrate their ability.

The two companies that remain in the battle - E.On and Scottish Power - will both be awarded tens of millions of pounds to further their studies in this field of specialist engineering.

News from charity the Art Fund is of the planned display of a Anglo-Saxon treasure hoard in Birmingham from Saturday the 13th of March 2010.

The wonderful items that will be on display are part of an enormous fundraising campaign from the charity who helps secure the future of countless precious works of art and items of historical interest.

The campaign is intended to help keep the Staffordshire Hoard in their home, the West Midlands.

More from the world of animal welfare as we learn from the World Society for the Protection of Animals about how whales have been spared more time when a decision regarding a quota of 10 humpback whales to be hunted was postponed until June at a meeting of the IWC (International Whaling Commission).

The original request for the 'aboriginal subsistence whaling' quota was raised by Denmark on behalf of Greenland, who have done this for a third occasion.
