Online Donations
These days most charities allow you to donate over the Internet. Making an online charity donation is a quick and secure way to give to the cause of your choice. There isn’t a definitive list of charities that allow online donations, but it’s easy find out by visiting the charity’s website.
What is the benefit of online charity donations?
Charities try to operate with as few administrative costs as possible. This is so that when you give to charity as much of your money as possible goes to the cause. Online charity donations help to reduce administration time because there is less paperwork to process. Making a gift online is also cheaper than the charity writing to you or telephoning you.
What kinds of charity donation can you make?
You can usually choose to make a one off charity donation (a single gift), or set up a direct debit that allows you to give to charity monthly or yearly (a regular gift). You select the amount you wish to give and then enter your contact details and payment information on the charity’s website, or via a payment provider like PayPal or Just Giving.
You can sometimes choose to opt out of paper mailings and request email updates about the charity’s work instead if you prefer to keep things paper free!
Before you make an online charity gift, remember…
Every charity donation is important, but a regular gift – even just a small amount each month – helps charities manage their funds most effectively, and plan their work accordingly.
Making online donations doesn’t affect Gift Aid: you can still Gift Aid any amount you give, as long as you are a UK tax payer (see All About Gift Aid).
If you know which cause you want to help but you don’t know who to donate to, check out the list of charities we’ve put together. Choose the area you are interested in – for example animal welfare or ending child abuse – and see some of the organisations working on these issues.
We've got a great list of charities on our website that can all take online donations - so why not learn more about them while you're here?
